gm,
From the Wells notice to data daddy drama to Emrata & Harry Styles, it’s been a week.
As for Club news: feelings check-in tomorrow, DAO Rush on Wednesday, High Pitched on Friday, plus two new pods with Sarah Kunst from CLEO Capital and Marjorie Hernandez from The Dematerialised & Lukso.
Also, we’re tithing to our AI overlords with a new section in this newsletter. Don’t forget to tip your waitress (i.e. follow beat writer Sam on Twitter).
Love,
The Boys
Shields Up. Crypto came under major attack this week. The SEC has warned Coinbase that it may pursue an enforcement action against the company over concerns that the platform offered trading of digital assets that may have been classified as securities. This has Gary written all over it. Big zaddy Brian welcomes his day in court to demonstrate that the SEC’s behavior is sus. This is not just an attack on Coinbase, but on all of crypto.
Palate Cleansers. How about some good news? First of all, 51,000 ETH was returned from the exploit on Euler. Roughly half the funds are still with the hacker, but a win is a win amirite? Next up, the hot new crypto x social app is Steal Cam. Take a photo, mint it as an NFT, and only people who pay to “steal it” can view the photo. Every time it’s stolen all previous owners get a little bit of ETH. It’s like a MLM, but for your nudes. JKJK but idk maybe. Who cares tbh, we need fun right now.
Do’s Done. Do Kwon’s not-so-terra-ific luck has run out this week. The crypto bad boy and fraudster has been arrested in Montenegro after presenting a false passport. 2023 is going to be a busy year for the courts (looking at you, SBF). To clarify, this arrest was not sponsored by Nike. PS remember this? lol.
The AI world is proving what real March Madness is, and some big rivals came to play this week. Google launched Bard - its ChatGPT clone competitor - who is having some serious performance anxiety. ChatGPT countered with its launch of Plugins, granting everyone’s favorite robot access to the internet. It was met with mixed reviews, some calling it the next app store and others calling it a hacker’s paradise. Microsoft launched Loops - its Notion competitor. Both have AI writing assistants that can do your homework, of course. In the digital art world, Canva announced their suite of AI tools a day after Adobe announced Firefly, both of which will majorly transform how people design. This has us all wondering when AI will take our jobs, to which OpenAI (the company behind ChatGPT) was like “uh, soon” but then big boy Gates helped us all see the bright side and how AI might just be the hero we need.
