AI But Make it Marketing. Sprite’s AI-chatbot and ‘mixtape art’ generator launched this week, to not-great reviews. The website is a collaboration between Complex Mag and Sprite to celebrate 50 years of Hip Hop. It prompts you to share your feelings about Hip Hop, while it generates a custom album cover based on your responses. Tbh “Brand safe” AI is boring. We appreciate the experimentation, but the end result is too corporate, with words like graffiti and even “Boys Club” being censored as inappropriate content. This is not the AI future we were promised.
#TomGreg forever. Fan fiction writers are protesting against ChatGPT and other generative text products, saying that the LLMs are using their work without permission. How do they know? ChatGPT was caught in the act, after it generated text about a fanfic subculture’s very specific and totally made up sex act, revealing it used the community’s text in its training model. The fundamental q here, and with the Hollywood writer’s strike, is this - the AI is scraping, Sama is profiting, but who is paying?
At least it lasted longer than Threads. 2023 is us just asking “did AI make this?” over and over. AI’s answer? Idk. Recently, OpenAI shut down its tool meant to recognize AI produced-content due to its low accuracy rates. While watermarking AI-generated content is one of the promises OpenAI and others made recently to the White House, it’s not yet decided how that will happen. Could it be a job for… the blockchain?!
We hang out in AI-image bot chatrooms so you don’t have to.
