Getting the band back together. Are The Beatles going to make a bigger comeback than Crocs at Paris Fashion Week? Paul McCartney announced he’s creating one final song, featuring John Lennon’s voice generated by AI. The singer is intrigued by the tech, telling the BBC, “we’ll just have to see where that leads.” Unfortunately, that won’t be towards a Grammy, as the recording academy announced that only songs where human creators are responsible for a ‘meaningful’ contribution are eligible to win the award. But how would they know?
America’s Next Top Model. Meta continues their AI hypetrain with a hot new model called Voicebox. Think of it as Midjourney for audio: type in a script of what you want to say, and a human-sounding voice will speak it for you. But wait, there’s more: the model can take a short audio clip of any voice, and have that voice read any script. Meta isn’t releasing this model to the public for the time being because that could be a big yikes. We’ll be here waiting for the Gaylors to get their hands on it.
Hot code-on-code action. OpenAI released a big update that’s a little brainy, but could have a major impact on the internet. Previously, if developers asked GPT-4 to do something, it only knew how to reply using the information generated from within itself. Great for writing essays, terrible for doing things like searching the internet or booking a flight. But with this update, developers can get GPT-4 to use other apps. This means that developers can now easily build apps that leverage this model to do things like send emails, check if it’s going to be beach weather this weekend, and explain the latest TikTok trend. Whoever is build an app that gets AI to do our taxes, HMU.
We hang out in AI-image bot chatrooms so you don’t have to.
