The Orbs have landed. Worldcoin is the controversial AI and crypto crossover act from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The company is working to prove identity via iris scan machines aka Orbs, around the world, in part to distinguish humans from AIs. Each identity will be tied to a digital wallet that can hold multiple global currencies, including $WLD, which is Worldcoin’s cryptocurrency intended to “show a potential path to AI-funded Universal Basic Income.” Worldcoin has officially launched as of this week, and all we’ll say is that the internet has some feedback.
ISO product-market fit. Google’s quest for finding profitable use cases for its AI products has led it down a new path: media (same lol). The company has reportedly been pitching outlets such as the Wall Street Journal and The New York Times on an LLM tool to help journalists generate articles. This move may be FOMO induced as OpenAI just partnered with The Associated Press.
The White House and the Seven Dwarfs. A voluntary effort is underway amongst OpenAI, Microsoft, Meta, Google, Amazon, Anthropic, and Inflection to invest in AI user protections, under guidance from the White House. The agreements focus on areas such as security, alignment, ethics and differentiating between human and AI-generated content. While it’s still unclear what the AI industry’s fairytale ending will be, one woman has already found her AI-generated Prince Charming.
